Manifesto for a New Normal
MANIFESTO FOR A NEW NORMAL is a 10-piece embroidered series made during the Covid pandemic. Like many of us, I was reflecting on social mores I could do without once the world restarted. I focused, once again, on cycles of shame and disguise - how one begets the other in our hearts and minds and decided that in my 'new normal', I would ditch the lot of them. Since I was stitching for a new life, I chose to make my manifesto on pieces sewn by mothers expecting a child, or brides stitching linens for their ‘bottom drawers’ and trousseaux. My texts celebrate the precious hopefulness, thoughts of shedding old constraints inspires.
